Very Finely Woven Antique Persian Serapi Rug with Bold Geometric Medallion Design. Keivan Woven Arts/ rug / B-0109. Iran/ Serapi Late 19th Century. Antique Persian Serapi rug. Fine decorative antique Serapi. Measures: 10'1 x 14'1 The term Serapi is synonymous to distinguish the finest of antique rugs made in the area surrounding the Heriz district in Northwest Persia. This lavish antique Serapi is an exemplary of the finest woven rugs in the region and epitomizes the special blend of color and crisp geometric design that sets the best of the Serapi rugs apart from others. Here is a monumental medallion in dark blue and ivory that reigns across the softened, soft red, terracotta and rust red field, surrounded by ivory spandrels at the four corners. Elegant, flowering sprigs and palmettes fill the intervening ground, echoing the details in the ivory spandrels. A grand 'turtle' or palmette vine scroll border frames the field, retaining its ground.
