About the Item

This wool Orley Shabahang Qashqai transitional Persian rug measures 4’ x 6’ and pulls its inspiration from the allure of traditional tribal Qashqai designs. The design depicts an abstracted flower garden, traditionally referred to as a bagh in Farsi. A playful yet serene green, taupe, red and cream interior are adorned with small intricate floral motifs, which contrast delicately against the striated indigo field. Within this indigo field, the signature of lead designer Bahram Shabahang is hand-knotted in cream wool. Moving toward the carpet’s edges, the multi-layered border encompasses the garden while also serving as a walkway around it. It is a modern, or transitional, take on a classic tribal design, with unique coloration and geometric patterning. Orley Shabahang works house to house, village to village, with artisan weavers working to preserve their craft and the art of weaving as a cottage industry. Combining ancient weaving methods with innovative designs and the highest quality raw materials, these rugs of today are created to be the antiques of the future.
