Vintage Swedish Flat Weave Rug by Judith Johansson (Spise Hall) Size: 9'2" × 12'3" (279 × 373 cm) A mid-century Swedish flat-weave wool rug “Spice Hall” by Judith Johansson with woven initials (JJ) at a corner. It is in excellent original condition, consistent with age. The main field features geometric pattern with blocks in rectangular shapes, shaded in a sliding color scale of of blue, green, pink, purple, beige and taupe. Judith Johansson was a textile artist in Swedish during the mid-20th century. Her style, typical of Swedish fold designs, featured a variety of colors and patters inspired by nature and geometry. The popularity of her designs led to her opening a weaving studio in 1938 wit her husband in Knäred, Sweden and in 1945 she was working for Nordiska Kompaniet department stores designing their carpets.
