Hand knotted in wool originating from Turkey, circa 1960-1969, this midcentury vintage rug joins our midcentury Pasha collection in celebration of Turkish icon Zeki Müren, among Josh’s handpicked favorites from this period of iconic style. Embodying his unprecedented approach to eclectic geometry, the play of a tiled border and striped field pattern brings out the notes of beige, red, yellow, and a fabulous multicolor array in the joyful and distinctive fashion synonymous with Müren’s style, which itself seemed inspired from the wave of postmodernism in post-WW2 Britain and its resurrection of playful color and pattern in the textile industry. Note the refined pile height, lowered similar to the appeal of a Kilim or flat-weave rug, complementing the air of shabby chic this line of distressed rugs enjoys.
