With its bold expressive design, incredible detail and texture, this hand knotted wool late 19th century antique Turkish Smyrna rug is a captivating vision of woven beauty. Taking center stage is a large hexagonal lozenge medallion patterned inside with a cross motif and anchored with a palmette pendant at either end. Four half-size palmettes grace each corner spandrel. The abrashed red field features an all-over geometric botanical pattern. It is enclosed with a rectilinear botanical border flanked with a series of inner and outer running water and botanical meander guard bands.
