About the Item

This vibrant traditional handwoven Turkish Oushak rug has an overall deep teal field with serrated palmettes and geometric floral motif linked by angled vines, in an ornate golden floral vine border, between minor geometric stripes. Oushak (or Ushak) rugs originate from the small town of Oushak in west-central Anatolia, which is located just south of modern-day Istanbul, Turkey. Oushak has been a center of production for Turkish rugs since the beginning of the Ottoman Empire. Antique Oushak rugs tend to be loosely woven on a wool foundation with a wool pile, often feature a subdued palette in soft apricot and golden saffron tones, and are known for the monumental scale of their designs. Oushak rugs are highly collectable and compliment a variety of elegant room settings.
