Imperial Harem Tapestry Inspired by Odalisque by Pierre-Auguste Renoir

About the Item

73695 Imperial Harem Odalisque Tapestry with Ottoman Empire Style, Wall Hanging 04'08 x 06'04. Drawing inspiration from Rudolphe Ernst, Odalisque by Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Reclining Odalisque by Gustave Léonard de Jonghe, this handwoven wool tapestry features two seductive female figures known as Harems embodying the Orientalism artistic movement and erotic paintings from the 19th century. The Ottoman Empire style wall hanging depicts a scene of an ikbal servant catering to the Sultan's Imperial Harem. The Imperial Harem reclines on a low-profile bench with her legs extended upon a tiger skin rug with its head rug. A stringed musical instrument known as an Oud rests beside the Imperial Harem's feet. The ikbal servant stands with a pitcher waiting on the Imperial Harem. A Moorish mosaic hanging lantern suspends from the top center and two Islamic pattern Mosque arch windows in the backdrop add fundamental interest to this erotic Islamic wall art. Abrash. Handwoven wool. Made in China. Measures: 04'08 x 06'04.
