About

A fantastic antique Kilim of large size from Northeast Turkey. Such large kilims were ordered for wealthy local patrons from villages where skilled tribal weavers could be contracted for such work. The box design allowed the weavers, who wove much smaller pieces for their own homes, to use their traditional motifs in creating a larger composition.

One of the best and oldest examples of this type we have encountered in recent years. It is also in remarkable state of preservation.

(Please note: Fine Turkish kilims like this are woven in the intricate slit-tapestry technique. They are ideally suited for moderate to low traffic use.)
