- Antique Irish Donegal Arts & Crafts Runner Rug, circa 1900 6' x 14'11Located in New York, NYAntique Irish Donegal Arts & Crafts Runner rug circa 1900, 6' x 14'11. Sort of an Irish Oushak with a slate blue ground displaying a repeat of semi-geometric buds and flowers along with sawtooth medallions. Unlike other Donegal's, there is nothing Celtic about this unique carpet. The palette is a variant on blue and white, but not oriental. The narrow orders just barely constrain the dynamic field which pushes underneath in all directions. The spacious layout makes the carpet seem larger than it is. The Arts and Crafts movement originated in England in the second half of the 19th century as a reaction against mass-produced machine-made goods. William Morris, the founder of Morris and Co., designed rugs, tapestries, wallpaper, textiles, and entire interiors. The large, luxurious antique European carpets produced under his direction are luxurious and stunning in their integration of European and Oriental styles. Another designer in the Morris circle was C.F. Voisey who worked on carpets as well as textiles and wallpapers. The style spread to Donegal, Ireland, where Alexander Morton established a workshop around 1900 to weave carpets, often incorporating indigenous Celtic motives. American designers further spread the handmade, hand crafted look as the Mission style, particularly popular in the West. Arts and Crafts carpets are thick, rustic and usually employ allover patterns. The rich, heavy pile comes from local Irish sheep...Category

- Arts & Crafts Donegal CarpetLocated in London, GBAntique Donegal Carpets, woven in the town of Killybegs, County Donegal, from the 1890s onwards, represent some of the most unique and highly sought-after European weavings - originally, a Western interpretation of earlier Turkish Oushak carpets, incorporating a wide array of design elements borrowed from both the Arts and Crafts movement and traditional Celtic art. These pieces are also known for their remarkably high quality, thanks to the centuries-old tradition of wool-working belonging to the people of Donegal - early examples can be found in places as prestigious as Dublin Castle, the University of Notre Dame, and the US Whitehouse. This piece, dating to the early 20th Century, features a wonderfully fresh colour palette, and an elegant composition inspired by Arts and Crafts textiles...Category

- Antique Donegal Arts & Crafts Rug in Blue with Floral PatternsLocated in Long Island City, NYThis antique 9x13 Arts & Crafts rug is a rare new Irish Donegal rug in our classic curations. Hand-knotted in wool circa 1920-1930. Further on the Design: This masterpiece is one of the few of its kind Josh has curated, and it’s an exemplar of the clear Persian and Oushak rugs that inspired European weavers in its period. This particular Irish Donegal rug boasts a montage of intricate floral patterns in sage green, red, and pink on the sky-blue background. That play of whimsical, vibrant tones on a more cool background achieves a gorgeous presence in this one-of-a-kind piece. This is a sophisticated, grand collectible, and a large-size rug with vast applications. Further on the Condition: This antique Donegal rug...Category
