19th Century Rare Skeleton Chair

Unique nineteenth century hand carved "momento mori" skeleton chair. This beautifully crafted, very distinctive chair was crafted in walnut, possibly in Europe, and may be modeled after a mid-nineteenth century example illustrated in "European Furniture of the 19th Century" by Christopher Payne. This rare and dramatic work retains its original leather seat cushion (in torn condition), animal hair upholstery, large round metal nail heads, and original wood finish.
