The architect Richard Riemerschmid was a leading exponent of the Munich Seccession, and designed many varied objects whose influence was felt internationally. His style was characterized by a straightforward simplicity unusual among Jugendstil designers. As well as his graceful (and much copied) "Music Chair", Riemerschmid created this even rarer armchair in 1900, with perhaps a little nostalgia for 1600. Actually quite comfortable to sit in, despite its appearance. Made by J. Fleischauer's Söhne of Nuremburg.
