Collectible Limited Design Black Paper Dolly Chair by Vadim Kibardin

About the Item

For many years, Vadim’s design practice has been recognised for experimenting with materials and developing unparalleled construction techniques. His work encourages positive social impact by awakening our collective human responsibility to the environment. Vadim placed equal emphasis on both innovation and functionality. He takes the minimalist philosophy of stripping an object to its essential features to a completely new level. With his iconic Black Paper and Totem collections, Vadim offers his contribution towards achieving a circular economy, creating sculptural, highly aesthetic and fully functional furniture from cardboard waste. Vadim's Dolly cardboard chair is the embodiment of contemporary collectible artistic design being a sculptural piece of appreciation and a fully functional piece of furniture. The Dolly chair is born from a unique construction method developed by Vadim over the years, which incorporates the use of discarded cardboard and black paper with no additional structure. By applying layer above layer, Vadim achieves high constructive properties making the piece fully stable and functional as though it were made out of hard materials. The chair is a highly durable piece of furniture even when in contact with water, if gently removed within 5-10 minutes. Because of its inherent qualities, no fingerprints are left on the chair when touched. Designed for indoor use only. Requires specific temperature and level of humidity. The Dolly chair has been featured in a number of international design magazines and on view in temporary and permanent museum collections in Europe.

  • French Mid-century Armchair, by Jean Pascaud & Vadim Androusov
    By Jean Pascaud, Vadim Androusov
    Located in New York, NY
French mid-century light mahogany armchair with gilt bronze sabot feet and armrest supported by gilt bronze eagles with brown upholstery. Signed by Vadim Androusov for Jean Pascaud (ref: Les Decorateurs des annee 40, pg 172). Jean Pascaud was born in Rouen in 1903. He took a degree in engineering from the Ecole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures, but his passion for furniture and décor, and the influence of his father in law, Auguste Bluysen, (then President of the Société des Architectes Modernes), led Pascaud to abandon a more traditional career and take up furniture design instead. By the late 1920s Pascaud regularly at the Salon des Tuileries, at the Salon d'Automne, the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs, and the Arts Ménagers. His work is simple, yet technically ambitious and brilliant; his pieces are impressively large, but aesthetically balanced. Vadim Androusov was born in St. Petersburg in 1895. He was a grandson of the archeologist Schliemann. He arrived in Paris in 1920 and took classes at La Grande Chaumière academy; Bourdelle was one of his professors. His first sculptures date from 1925 and depict female figures and characters drawn from classical antiquity. He rarely used bronze, preferring terracotta, plaster, wood, and stone. He showed his creations at the Salon des Tuileries and the Salon des Indépendants. While a sculptor, he also collaborated with interior decorators and created wall-mounted light fixtures, furniture pulls...
