Pair of Fine George III Mahogany Armchairs
About the Item
These chairs were sourced from two different locations one from New York the other Boston. They are English and are from the same set reunited after many years apart. The difference between them is that one has later blind fret carved legs done as an enhancement when quantity of carving indicated a finer example. Also this chair is lacking the small brackets at the top of the legs. Otherwise they are identical. Each has needlepoint seats in poor condition overall. One seat now has muslin but needlepoint panel is present. I would recommend re-upholstery. Very generous proportions with shaped carved crest-rail and vasi-form carved splat. Carved shaped arms and upholstered seat raised on square section legs. Casters. The needlepoint chair sold Christies , London,Nov 12 1998, sale 6045, lot 22
