About the Item

Wonderful armchair of the very early Art Nouveau period, very particular shape for a very particular design, enriched by a very original striped velvet fabric. Elegant and sober design but truly one of a kind. The armchair was designed by Josef Maria Olbrich (1867-1908) and manufactured by Thonet. Josef Maria Olbrich was a student of Otto Wagnerand about in the year 1897 the co-founder and builder of the Viennese Secession. This armchair is made of solid red-brown color stained beech. Its seat has been reupholstered and a beautiful striped velvet with a green base has been chosen instead of the old fabric. Wear consistent with age and use.
