French 17th Century Walnut and Leather Covered Reclining or Ratchet Chair

About the Item

Reclining or "Ratchet" Chair of Louis XIV period and very comfortable proportions, the turned front legs and stretcher, connected to the square back legs by flat H-stretchers, seat, back, armrests and seat-cushion covered in beige leather, the seat with hinges connecting the back and with wrought iron reclining-ratchets to the side.

The back of the chair has two finely carved scroll acanthus finials above two broad arms, which are supported by carved balusters that run through into square front legs, these are joined by a high and heavily carved stretcher with two shaped stretchers joining the front and back legs at either side. Great patina to the wood and leather. In very good condition.
