French 19th Century Empire Style Mahogany and Ormolu Armchairs
About the Item
A most handsome French mid-19th century Empire style mahogany and ormolu mounted pair of armchairs. The pair are raised by front square tapered legs that have pawed ormolu feet and exquisite and richly chased caryatids at the top below the arm rests. The curved front apron is decorated by elegant palmette ormolu mounts flanking a central rosette. The upholstered armrests lead to the rectangular upholstered back with a similarly decorated top. Wonderful and rich patina throughout. Truly statement making armchairs.
