French Pair of Louis XVI Style Fauteuils, Early 19th Century

About the Item

A French pair of Louis XVI style, carved-wood fauteuil armchairs from the early 19th century. This antique pair of armchairs from France, are hand-carved in the in the influences of Louis XVI period, each featuring rectangular-backs with a raised scrolling-acanthus crest on top rail, within softened shoulders that fall down into carved volutes set just above the wooden arms, with manchette pads, and then terminating into an elegantly carved acanthus leaf front arm post. Clean lines are found along seat rail, with flower-head accents at each corner. The chairs are raised upon rounded, flute-carved legs with peg feet at front, with rear sabre legs. The chair retains its original (or very early) finish and is ready for upholstery to suit your decor needs. Note that there are some older losses and repairs; please see additional images for more details on condition. This pair of 19th century French fauteuils will make a beautiful and inviting seating arrangement within any room of your home or office.

This antique chair-and-a-half from France, often referred to as a marquise (a wide fauteuils chair), showcases all the Louis XVI decorative vocabulary with tightly carved scrolled knuckles, beautiful accent trims, and acanthus leaf accents.
