George First Period Wing Armchair Walnut Fine Carving, English circa 1720

About

This is a very fine quality English, walnut, wing armchair from the early years of the 18th century, George the first period, circa 1720. Chairs from this very early Georgian period tend to have excellent shape and proportions. This chair has these characteristics and is very elegant. The back is flat and the arms sweep gently outwards scrolling towards the front to form arm rests. The seat is typically Georgian, generous in width without being overly large. The chair has superb high cabriole walnut legs to the front which have crisply carved shell, bell flower and droplet decoration to the knees, sweeping down to pad feet. The rear legs are outwardly swept and terminate in rectangular pads. The walnut legs have a very good depth of color and patination, particularly the front ones. The chair has been professionally re-upholstered in a quality fabric having a black ground color with a gold diamond pattern. Overall a very fine quality arm chair, which is both elegant and practical, being very comfortable to sit in. This chair would grace any home.
