George II Country Armchair Elm with Ribbon Back and Crook Arm English circa 1750
This is a very well-proportioned example of a mid-18th century, English George II period Country armchair made from elm. It has a good ribbon-back splat with nicely carved ear pieces and a superb crook shaped arm. The chair has a pegged and dovetailed jointed construction with square legs, which are chamfered on the inside, this being another feature on chairs of this period. The seat is over-stuffed and "dished" which is another quality feature. The chair is wide which is typical for the Georgian period and It has a lovely color and patination. It would make a very comfortable office or desk chair. Please note the seat has been newly re-upholstered in a good quality, heavy fabric.
