George III Hepplewhite Mahogany Armchair, circa 1780

About

A chair of very elegant proportions and an example of a Hepplewhite period stuff back armchair, circa 1780. The mahogany frame with deeply moulded arms, each carved with a scroll, twist outwards before curving down to join the side rails. The front legs are round and tapered with deep fluting and the back legs conform in shape and are set at a splay which balances the chair in profile. Good serpentine front seat rail and broad attractively set back. Original throughout. Please see photographs of frame prior to upholstery. The chair has been newly and professionally upholstered in a top quality silk fabric made by the Gainsborough Silk Weaving Company to an original 18th century design in ivory white. A very comfortable chair, robust and solid and in excellent condition throughout. Dimensions are: 24 inches wide, 24 inches deep and 36 inches high. Floor to seat is 17.5 inches. For metric please multiply by 2.5.
