Valentino Panciera Besarel (Workshop/Studio)
An important Italian Baroque style walnut open armchair from the Venetian workshop of Valentino Panciera Besarel and in the manner of Andrea Brustolon. The chair with arched fully upholstered back and seat supported by hand-carved frame with symmetrical blackamoors in costume: the naturalistic figures standing contrapposto on stepped bases, its vertical supports holding arm rests terminating in acanthus leaf carving. The upper part of the arm with putti reclining on draped fabric with rocaille motifs. The cabriole legs formed by stylized dolphins resting on pads, its four legs joined by arched X-shaped stretcher surmounted by finials. Chair is upholstered in a silk cut velvet fabric with nailhead trim. (July 29, 1829-December 11, 1902) (July 20, 1662-October 25, 1732).
