This exquisite pair of circa 1870s Hepplewhite style 'Shield-Back' armchairs are exquisite. We believe the wood to be crafted from solid Mahogany with intricate detailed carved details. The upholstered back and arms provide additional comfort from the traditional open back style of standard Hepplewhite chairs. Acquired from English Antiques specialist Dillingham & Company in 1998, a copy of the receipt is attached in the photo gallery. These 19th Century antique shield back arm chairs would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Post-Modern room. Pair of restored Witco Conquistador tiki throne chairs in original red fur. These chairs are absolutely wild in the best kind of way. The original red fur fabric has a thick pile. This bright red upholstery adds drama to the high-back, iron cladded, hand-carved throne. As if all that isn’t enough.. the arms are carved like gorilla paws. Each throne chair is crowned with two hand-carved conquistador heads donning their iconic helmets. These highly collectible and hard-to-find thrown chairs were born of the jet-set era. The 1960s was the golden age of air travel and Americans were absolutely fascinated with “Exotica.” Ephemera from exotic tropical lands around South Asia were all the rage and gave birth to an explosion of tiki motifs in popular American culture. Each high back is adorned with two hand-carved conquistador heads donning their iconic helmets. These highly collectible and hard-to-find thrown chairs were born of the jet-set era. The 1960s was the golden age of air travel and Americans were absolutely fascinated with “Exotica.” Ephemera from exotic tropical lands around South Asia were all the rage and gave birth to an explosion of tiki motifs in popular American culture. This project was a complete tear-down and rebuild. Every section was unbolted and individually restored. This sinuous, dark cedar has been painstakingly detailed by our in-house restoration team to both preserve the patina and address any imperfections in the wood. Lightly recolored and clear-coated to accentuate and preserve the character. The seats and backs were professionally reupholstered, and the results speak for themselves.
