Pair George III Mahogany Armchairs

Buyer Protection Guaranteed

# Q136 - PAIR George III armchairs (one later) all beautifully carved in mahogany with a rich color and patination. Note the curvaceous profile resulting from the influence of the high style Paris models being made at the time. This French Rococo influence was interpreted by the most important London cabinetmakers including Chippendale and Linnell who created restrained English examples. Note the cartouche shaped upholstered back flanked by a pair of out scrolled arms with pad upholstery and ending in carved volutes. The upholstered over seat with a carved mahogany apron centering a shell motif and further foliate carving at the knees above graceful attenuated cabriole legs ending in scroll feet. The overall comfort and excellent proportions and scale conspire to create a desireable model for collectors today.
English, one Circa 1760 and one later
