Pair of 19th Century Carved and Paint Decorated Lyre Back Armchairs

About the Item

Italian or French in the Louis XVI style. Originally carved dark wood in later deep gray paint overall. The square backs with ribbon and beaded crest rails and wide carved lyres decorated with carved lotus flowers and rosettes. The fluted tops of the cylindrical tapering arms with carved rosettes coordinating with the ends of the arms with rosettes and leafy ends. The shaped seat rails with carved leafy bands overall. Raised on fluted cylindrical tapering legs with carved leaves and rosette tops. Newer upholstery in natural tone textured cotton like fabric on the manches and seats. Measures: Height 34 1/2", width 22 1/2", depth 24", seat H. 18 1/2" Condition: Some wear and slight losses to the paint on the backs revealing the dark wood underneath and a few very small dark marks to the fabric of one seat however the pair present very well.
