About the Item

Sublime pair of armchairs and a chair stamped Henri Jacob, round tapered legs, finely fluted, sculpted backs inside. Henri Jacob was the first cousin of the famous cabinetmaker Georges Jacob. He obtained his master's degree in cabinetmaking in 1779 and set up shop in the rue de Bourbon-Villeneuve before moving in 1799 and establishing his workshop in the rue de l'Échiquier.  He ceased his activity in 1806.  Thanks to his talent and the quality and rarity of his works compared to the large number of pieces made by his famous cousin Georges, he quickly became very well known.  His production of chairs earned him numerous commissions from the most prestigious figures of the time. As early as 1785, Henri Jacob received orders from the Court and made Louis XVI chairs, classical in gilded wood. His most important production is mainly made up of Directoire and Consulat chairs, in mahogany, with very fine carvings.  Henri Jacob left behind some beautiful creations of very high quality. His establishment disappeared at the beginning of the Empire.
