Pair of Pierre Paulin CM 194 Armchairs for Thonet, France, circa 1958

About the Item

Distinctive pair of mid 20th century design armchairs, model CM 194. This pair of chairs are early works designed by the visionary designer Pierre Paulin for Thonet Furniture Company, France, circa 1958. This set of chairs has an ingenious ergonomic design with a supportive seat and back for the perfect seated posture, its shape is a predecessor and great source of study to Paulin's more commonly known Mushroom, Tongue, and Ribbon designs. The chairs are rendered in a sumptuous felted wool fabric covering a one piece scooped seat and back with adjoining floating arms all supported by an enameled tubular black steel frame that disappears creating the illusion that these chairs are floating and weightless in the room. The set of chairs have been recently restored and reupholstered in the white felted wool fabric.
