Reclining Chair in Metal, Hardwood & Leather, Ernesto Hauner, 1960, Brazil

About the Item

Available today, with domestic shipping in NYC metro area included, This Modern Century Reclining Chair in Metal Hardwood and Leather Ernesto Hauner 1960 is nothing less than gorgeous! Indulge in unparalleled comfort with this reclining armchair, featuring a robust hardwood structure and luxurious soft pink leather upholstery. Its elegant metal legs complement the Brazilian Rosewood armrests, known as jacaranda, while enabling the chair to recline into two distinct positions. Recently refinished armrests, along with new upholstery and a reinforced reclining mechanism, elevate the chair's appeal and functionality. Delicate metal legs provide a balanced design, enhancing the chair's harmonious aesthetic. This set is another example of the awesome furniture work in Brazil between the 40-70's decades. A set like this will look great in any type of environment, from mid century to contemporary and modern design. About the designer: Ernesto Hauner was an Italian immigrant who came to Brazil in 1949 and began working in furniture design with renowned figures such as Lina Bo Bardi, Sérgio Rodrigues, Martin Eisler, and his brother Carlo Hauner. He started his career at Studio Palma, which later became Móveis Artesanal, and eventually became a partner at Forma Móveis e Objetos de Arte. In 1958, Hauner established his own business with a small factory in São Paulo, where he created modular bookshelves using solid wood. Hauner's designs incorporated new materials that had begun to be produced by the Brazilian industry, allowing him to develop complete furniture lines for both homes and office spaces, adapting to mass production.

Brazilian Modern Armchairs in Fabric, Hardwood & Metal, Carlo Hauner, 1950s
By Carlo Hauner
Located in New York, NY
Available now, this Mid-Century Modern armchair set in velvet, Hardwood & Steel designed by Carlo Hauner in the fifties is perfect! This gorgeous set features a steel structure painted in black and a seat & body backrest in new gray velvet upholstery with three buttons and delicate Brazilian Rosewood (known as Jacaranda) arms. The restoration of the set took a few months because when I bought it the armchairs didn't have the Jacaranda arms, and every collector knows that the value of a piece is on the integrity of the piece, meaning original pieces and method. Finding Hauner’s wood arms took me to many antique markets until two months after I found the wood arms in a shop specialized in vintage furniture in Rio de Janeiro’s city center. Now the piece is complete! These armchairs are so awesome that we’ve paired them in the gallery with other pieces and are always spectacular. The first furniture set showcases the armchairs with Scapinelli’s famous Acqua coffee table and Jorge Zalszupin Pullman sofa. The second image has the set next to Celina Decoracoes four seat sofa and a delicate Scapinelli coffee table. The third image has one armchair next to Sergio Rodrigues’s Sabara Rosewood trunk...
