About the Item

Bergère armchair, “à oreilles cassées ” model, in solid Gabon ebony and sycamore with flat projecting armrests resting on four silvered bronze spheres. Upholstered in black silk velvet with a Moucharabié pattern by Manufacture Prelle. Stamped 'Ruhlmann' under the front right leg. Referenced under nos. 274AR and 18NR in the Ruhlmann archives, Musée des Années 30, Boulogne Billancourt. Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann (1879-1933) was a French furniture designer and interior decorator and one of the most important and influential figures of the Art Deco movement, even considered by some the godfather of French Art Deco. His designs are characterized through elegance and purity of form, made with precious materials and expert craftsmanship, combining luxuriousness with modernity.
