Set of 4 Sculptural Plywood Armchairs by Malatesta and Mason, 1950s, Mid-Century

About the Item

Listed is a wonderful set of four Italian sculptural armchairs, produced by Malatesta and Mason in the early 1950s. They feature in Charlotte and Peter Fiell’s ‘1950s Decorative Art’, p. 23-24., published by Taschen, but remain a hidden gem for design connoisseurs as they are rarely seen on the market. Beautifully carved form solid beech, carrying a stunning plywood seat, these chairs will become the instant center piece of every Mid-Century Modern project. The listed chairs are in a wonderful vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use, some more wear to some of the armrests. Chairs are all original and evenly used, and very rarely seen with just a wooden seat. Let alone finding a set of 4 identical ones! General note: Shipping quotes as supplied by 1stdibs are only indicative. We will discuss and figure out the best possible shipment method (and rate) for every object.
