Very Rare Jan van Ettinger for D3 Tubular Armchair 1930s Set of 3

About the Item

Very Rare set of 3 Jan van Ettinger for D3 Tubular Armchairs. The Netherlands, 1932-1936. These chairs are downright museum pieces and Dutch industrial design history. The short lived company D3 only existed for four years, but remains relevant as one of the early examples of makers of tubular furniture in The Netherlands. Together with Paul Schuitema, engineer, designer and business man Jan van Ettinger designed a distinct line-up of tubular furniture. Literature: 'Volmaakt Verchroomd: d3 en het avant-garde stalenbuismeubel in Nederland', 2007, NAi Uitgevers, ISBN:9789056625801. The chairs in our collection are a great example of the wonderful work of Van Ettinger for D3. The armchairs are remarkably elegant and delicate. Foremost the curved seat is a real standout feature of this chair. The general shape is also very balanced and well proportioned. A very interesting design from every angle. In great original condition. Real museum pieces.
