American 'Phaeton' Carriage Seat

Phaeton is the early 19th-century term for an open carriage drawn by a single horse or a pair. With four oversized wheels, very lightly sprung, and a minimal body; it was fast and dangerous. The paint color is original; as are the wooden framing, iron straps, springs and sanitized horsehair stuffing. The upholstery fabric is fresh and new. Found in rural Litchfield County, Connecticut; there is no maker's mark or label. Early 19th century historical memorabilia repurposed as casual seating furniture.
