Large Solid Pine Bench by Danish Architects Friss & Moltke

About the Item

Friis & Moltke The drawing studio Friis & Moltke was founded in 1954 by Knud Friis and Elmar Moltke. They quickly became known for their mild approach to brutalism, which was a style within modern architecture that emerged in the period from 1950-1970. Brutalism was characterized by clean, geometric building parts, the use of steel, glass and, above all, unplastered concrete. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier became guidelines for Brutalism on an international level, while in Denmark it was the architectural firm Friis and Moltke which became the most important representative of the direction. Friis & Moltke wanted to create authentic architecture with a massive weight, and the love of the robust, as well as the simplicity of materials and details, became synonymous with Friis & Moltke. They have since been behind a large number of private buildings as well as large commercial and institutional buildings in Denmark, and have also had a great influence on Danish architecture.
