Rud Thygesen Ashwood and Cane Bench

About the Item

Designed by Rud Thygesen and executed by master cabinetmaker Niels Roth Andersen, this bench is effortlessly graceful. Bent and laminated ash with visible joinery. The cane is delicately handwoven and remains in wonderful condition. The design is reminiscent of Rud Thygesen’s “Kongserien” or “King Series” collection which he produced with Johnny Sørensen for Botium in the late 1960s. The collection won a Copenhagen Carpenters’ Guild competition and was presented to King Frederik IX as a 70th birthday gift. This bench uses similar materials and joinery, in a sleeker, more contemporary iteration.
