About the Item

Designed by William Westenhaver, he made this bench for his company, Western International Trading Co. in the 1960s. His pieces were revolutionary in the world of Tiki, blending its tropical style with a modern touch. His popularity steadily grew, peaking when Elvis Presley furnished his entire Jungle Room at his estate exclusively with Witco. Many pieces are still around, scattered at hotels and such across North America, and others are even in the galleries of extraordinary interior designers such as the late Amy Lau. This particular bench features deeply carved, sculptural wood detailing with a rich, dark grain finish. It also has a durable and practical vinyl seat, which is easy to clean and basically maintainance free. Complete with rolled armrests and a sleek black vinyl cushion, it perfectly balances retro tropical vibes with brutalist modernism. Perfect for an entryway, bedroom, or living room statement. In good vintage and original condition. General wear throughout. While we would not recommend reupholstering, we can certainly offer this service from our in-house professionals.
