Acerbis Med Chair in White Upholstery Seat with Black Stained Ash Frame

About the Item

The Med chair embodies the experimental approach of Giotto Stoppino and Lodovico Acerbis towards the material and its craftsmanship. Designed in 1983, it has been reproduced faithfully to the original design rediscovered in the Acerbis historical archives. With its contrasting curves and linearity, the seat has now been given new dimensions and more graceful proportions for its legs and wood structure. Characterised by unique details such as the cross-section of the legs—reminiscent of the iconic Flatiron Building in Manhattan, New York—and the crossbars between them, their repetition a distinctive graphic signature, the Med seat is the perfect partner for any style of table. The structure in wood is embellished with upholstery in vibrant colours, making Acerbis and Stoppino’s design a versatile addition to the Remasters collection. Back and seat in curved plywood, with polyurethane padding and fabric upholstery. The upholstery is non-removable and completely covers the backrest and seat. Structure: The frame is made of solid wood stained black ash or dark walnut; these special processes require great craftsmanship and also a profound knowledge of wood, synonymous with quality and authenticity. NB: Due to the nature of the seat, outdoor use is not recommended. Lodovico Acerbis was born in Albino, Bergamo in 1939 and graduated in Economics and Business in Milan. In 1963 he joined his father’s company with the aim of creating design furniture by applying the most advanced technologies and the best materials. Founded in 1870, as a carpentry workshop, the company under his direction reached industrial dimensions and established itself as a leading company in the sector. Lodovico Acerbis combined his work as an industrialist with that of a designer, producing some of the most significant creations of Italian production, often signed together with Giotto Stoppino, with whom he created a fervent creative partnership. Born in Vigevano in 1926, Giotto Stoppino studied Architecture at Milan and Venice. Since 1953 he has devoted himself almost entirely to architecture, founding together with Gregotti and Meneghetti one of the most culturally committed architects’ offices. Since 1968, with his own independent studio, he has dedicated himself to design. He was president of ADI for the three-year period 1982-1985 and president of the Compasso d’Oro award in 1984. His works are in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, in the Museum für angewandte Kunst in Munich, in the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and the City-Hall in Shanghai. • Chair in black stained ash and swivel base
    By Jaime Hayon
    Located in Barcelona, ES
A new version of the Showtime chair by Jaime Hayon which does not make the original design obsolete, but rather compliments it. The Showtime Nude Chair is simpler than the previous version but hasn’t lost any of its personality. We have called it ‘Nude’ as we have taken the essential and added new legs and a more ergonomic backrest. The shapes are slightly different but visibly more organic, developed and matured, much the same as the designer’s works from over the years. Powder coated steel or aluminium structure. Seat and backrest in black stained ash.
