About the Item

"Atena" is an elegant chair, designed by Alessandro Zambelli and manufactured by Adele-C, with padded metal structure upholstered by full grain blue or red colored leather, with a laser engraved design on the backrest. Legs made of turned solid Canaletto walnut. Leather covers by Adele-C are aniline dyed in a vat during the tanning process, which avoids to use chromium salts. Indoor use only. DIMENSIONS: D. 23.6", W. 20.4", H. 40.1", Seat H. 17.7" As a blend of traditional cabinet-making techniques and state-of-the-art technology, Atena chair comes with expertly curved wood legs and armrests as well as with a laser-branded leather upholstery which boasts a shaded, 3D effect texture. As a final touch, the blue and red tones add vibrancy to the design, complementing the grain patterns of the solid wood. Aiming to express a sense of "altered reality", the designer created seating that seemingly reverses the role of the supporting structure and seat/backrest. Unlike traditional chairs, Atena features a concealed frame which creates the illusion of a suspended cushion. Thus, the soft sections gain solidity and stability, while the legs become more graceful. The fluid lines take inspiration from the golden ratio, giving the chair and armchair a classic vibe despite their modern design – another way the designer challenges the viewers’ expectations. Following on the footsteps of the Araes dining table, Atena chair and armchair by Alessandro Zambelli bring a refined accent to modern living spaces. All three pieces of furniture were designed for Italian company Adele-C, in a collaboration which illustrates why Italians still lead the way in the field of furniture design and manufacturing. Similarly to Zambelli’s other products, the chair and armchair feature a complex concept that goes beyond achieving a perfect balance between function and aesthetic. ALESSANDRO ZAMBELLI lives and works in Mantua, Italy. He studied industrial design and materials engineering at the Cova School of Design in Milan and his career took off as a bathroom designer at Agape in 2000. A few years later, in 2003, he founded Alessandro Zambelli Design Studio. In 2006 he worked on the Estetico Quotidiano project, marking the start of his co-operation with Seletti design house. Zambelli’s Palace Collection and School Joke Chair followed (for the same client) and won the European Consumers Choice award in 2011 and the NYIGF award in 2012. During this period, he forged working relations with many other firms in the sector: Caimi Brevetti furniture designer, Diamantini & Domeniconi home accessory and clock manufacturer, Disaronno, Exnovo Italian new technology design, Rudi Rabitti leather goods design, Skitsch home furnishing design and Swarovski crystal ware manufacturer. Zambelli is a co-founder of Padiglione Italia, a designers' collective which seeks to present the specifics of the Italian design scene. Zambelli exhibited at Beijing Design Week, Invito a Tavola (New York), Tokyo Tableware Festival and F.O.O.D. (Mint Museum, Charlotte, NC) and other international design fairs. He never considers his work purely as an exercise in style, as he thinks that an inner soul must enliven every object. ADELE-C collection, including and extending the legacy of the well-known Cassina brand, consists of pieces of design indifferent to passing fads and ready to show new paths for interior design. Adele-C collection is typically ready to naturally adapt to any space, as its sobriety in style and quality of materials are simply perfect to enrich any room in a refined way.
