Chinese Antique Pair Scholar Chairs Qing Dynasty, 19th century

China, a lovely and solid pair of hardwood elm humu scholar chairs with original traces of red lacquer. Handsome look, generous seating area, appealing examples. Back splat depicts three cameos of deer, frolicking dragons, and censer or pagoda architectural shape. All original craftsmanship, we can find no replacements. Dimensions: 46 inches high and 25.75 inches wide and 17 inches depth. Seat height is 20 inches Provenance: This is a one-of-a-kind pair coming from an old Cape Cod collection. They are ideal acquisitions for the discerning collector, decorator, and make a wonderful contemporary artistic statement in your favorite interior space. Scholar chairs were shaped in the form of a Ming Chinese scholar's hat and the earliest Ming Dynasty forms were prized for pure form, spare lines and elegant proportions.
