About the Item

"Cloister Chair" by Yuki Gray Ed of 2 Ed. 1 of 2 32” x 21” x 19” Ash, birch The chair is functional, however, this is more of a 'sculptural' piece more than anything and not a chair you would sit on everyday. It's a statement piece for a hallway, a foyer or any space that needs a unique design artwork. In Yuki's words: “One day I was visiting The Met’s Cloister Museum in New York and I saw a bundle of wheat sitting in the corner of the exhibit. It stood on its own as a proud display of exploding texture. I saw this and made sure to keep note. This chair uses the combined structure of over 1000 smaller legs to create a form reminiscent of the time I saw this bundle of wheat” - Yuki Gray Bio: Yuki Gray is an artist and designer currently living between Tokyo and New York. Interested in making dimensional objects, his exploration of material lays the foundation for the concepts he continues to develop. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Furniture Design after growing up in Bangkok, Thailand, Nagoya, Japan and Massachusetts, USA. He recently finished a year long residency at the Museum of Art and Design in NY.
