Flavio de Carvalho FDC-1 Chair, Brazil, 1950

About the Item

This chair model FDC-1 is designed by Flavio de Carvalho (1899-1973) and manufactured at a local atelier in Brazil, 1950. The chair has a solid steel sctructure, circle shaped and has a natural leater seat and back which has a stunning patina of years of usage. The chair shows a perfect balance of materials, and how minimal materials you need to create a chair which is aesthetically and structurally perfectly in balance. The circle shaped chair with 4 legs which almost look like a space craft is very stable. The metal structure is black painted and has a nice patina from age and some paint losses as you can see on the pictures. The leather is in smooth condition and has a beautiful patina from usage. Very nice and unique chair from one of Brazils greatest architects. Provenance; Private collection, Sao Paolo Important literature: Móvel Moderno Brasileiro, Olhares, page 81-83.
