Folk Art Chestnut Wood Tripod Chair, Charles Dudouyt Style, France, 1930s
About the Item
French Folk Art Chestnut Wood Tripod Chair, Art Deco Period, in the Manner of Charles Dudouit, 1930s–1940s
A French Folk Art tripod chair in solid chestnut, made circa 1930s–1940s, in the manner of Charles Dudouit. The piece sits at the intersection of vernacular craftsmanship and early modern design, with a clear, sculptural presence.
The circular seat is carved with concentric rings and rests on three turned legs. The back is a single-cut plank with an integrated handle. The proportions are compact but deliberate, and the construction is entirely handmade.
More than a purely functional object, it reads as a collectible French Folk Art piece—well suited to a curated interior or as a standalone sculptural accent. The chestnut has developed a warm, even patina, with visible grain and minor variations consistent with age and use.
Height: 29.1 in (74 cm). Seat height: 17.7 in (45 cm). Seat diameter: 11.2 in (28.5 cm).
France, 1930–1949.
