French Pair 19th C. Empire Style Fauteuils, Newly Upholstered in Belgian Linen

About the Item

A French pair of Empire style armchairs, with their original painted finish, from the 19th century. These antique fauteuils from France each feature beautifully arched backs, rectangular in shape with upholstered back-centers framed within wood carved with acanthus accents at sides, a petite flower above within a geometric panel, and topped with a raised spindle style chair top rail. Wood arms slope down and have manchette pads and terminate into flute-carved knuckles. The seat is upholstered, and wood skirting is clean/linear. The chairs are presented upon rounded and turned legs at front, with carved flower heads at knees, and rear sabre legs. The original paint remnants are mostly shades of green with black trim and lots of wood showing through from the aged patina. These 19th century French Empire style fauteuils have all been newly upholstered in a neutral colored Belgian linen.
