Hans Wegner rosewood China Chair, FH4283, designed 1944, Fritz Hansen 1960s

About the Item

Designed by Hans J Wegner in 1944, the China chair has become an icon of mid-century Danish design. Model number FH4283 in a series of items designed by Wegner and manufactured by cabinetmakers Fritz Hansen, Denmark, this chair was created as a homage to furniture from the Chinese Ming dynasty. We have four examples in rosewood, likely made in the 1960s, which we are offering for sale individually. Each chair has beautiful graining to the solid rosewood frame and dovetail joints to the curved back rail. The seat is made from interwoven wide canvas straps, topped by a leather upholstered cushion with button detailing. The underside of the seat bears a Fritz Hansen linen label and there is a further label adhered to the frame (see image). The chairs are in excellent condition for age and use. Each measures 82cm high, 57cm wide, 54cm deep and the seat height is 42cm. Price and shipping quotes are per chair - there are 4 chairs in total available.
