" Klismos" chair, 19th century

"Klismos" chair Stained walnut Of unusual design, the chair has a curved back attached to the seat by a triple support, Square seat, saber feet. Northern Europe, probably Denmark. mid to late 19th century. A design developed by the Greeks in the 5th century BC, the Klismos chair has four curving splayed legs and curved back rail with a concave back rest. The design was resurrected in the English Regency period. Later in 1961 T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings designed with great success a Klismos chair for Saridis.
