The Meedo Chair design unites the rich history of the Afro Comb with the African tradition of a ceremonial seat signifying leadership, unity and kinship. The Afro Comb is an enduring icon of the Black experience, harkening to at least 6000 years back in Sudan. From the Black Power and Black is Beautiful movements, to rites of passage into adulthood in many African cultures, The Afro Comb is a symbol of beauty, status, and vigor. The Meedo Chair is in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
