About the Item

Handsome recent vintage pair of chairs crafted in the English Neoclassical Revival style, specifically referencing the delicate designs of Sheraton and Hepplewhite from the late 18th century, but believed to have been originally made in the 1990s. They feature an iconic open back with a Prince of Wales Plume (feather) fan splat, which lends a sophisticated, airy elegance. Supported by classic tapered and fluted legs, these chairs are a perfect blend of formal symmetry and light, graceful proportion, ideal for use as accent chairs, dining chairs, or entryway seating.   Excellent restored vintage condition. Newly lacquered in a semi-glass Mediterranean Olive lacquer, repadded with all new materials and reupholstered in a fantastic tonal olive chenille with a slight metallic shimmer.

Pair of Upholstered Hepplewhite Shield-Back Armchairs w Provenance, circa 1870s
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This exquisite pair of circa 1870s Hepplewhite style 'Shield-Back' armchairs are exquisite. We believe the wood to be crafted from solid Mahogany with intricate detailed carved details. The upholstered back and arms provide additional comfort from the traditional open back style of standard Hepplewhite chairs. Acquired from English Antiques specialist Dillingham & Company in 1998, a copy of the receipt is attached in the photo gallery. These 19th Century antique shield back arm chairs would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Post-Modern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Consider using as side chairs, dining, cafe or breakfast table chairs...
