About

American made, oak and cast iron Arts & Crafts chair with leather upholstery. The maker of this chair, the Davis Chair Company was founded in 1892 in Marysville, Ohio. We have no idea how this extremely rare and all-American antique chair ended up in the Netherlands, but we were very enthousiastic when we were given the opportunity to purchase this near perfect chair. The design, the overall look and feel and the patina of this vintage American chair are to die for. It must have been re-upholstered with this beautiful sheeps leather about 10 to 30 years ago and the combination with the wonderful oak and the blackened cast iron is an absolute joy to look at. This chair is not only special because of its rarity, its origin and its look though. There are a number of mechanical qualities to this chair that are truly ingenious. Firstly, this must be one of the earliest chairs of which the back rest was height adjustable. Secondly, when you look at image 18 you might think that the position this chair is in there, would not be very comfortable to sit in. However, thanks to the extremely durable spring underneath this chair, in that position too this chair is very comfortable. Thanks to the pressure that is put on your lower back this chair may also have been one of the first ergonomical chairs ever to have been made. Thirdly, by easily turning the cast iron wheel in the center you can also adjust the seat height. This relatively small, timeless and striking chair from the American Arts and Crafts era is as stable as the day it was made and it will look great in all kinds of interiors. We are, again, quite certain that you will never find another one like it. You can still use it every day behind a ladies desk, but also as a 'furniture still-life' (as we call it) this American beauty will never fail to impress you or anyone visiting. Again great value for money. Especially when taken into account that perfect packing and worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 days are complimentary. Max. height in lowest position: 31.5 inches. Seat height in lowest position: 16.5 inches. Maximum height in highest position: 37 inches. Seat height in highest position: 19.7 inches. Width of the seat: 15.3 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again). You can shop all our 1000+ listings by pushing the button that reads 'View All From Seller'.
