Roma Chair by Marco Zanini for Memphis, 1986

$6,950

About

From the 1986 Memphis/Milano collection, this chair represents one of Marco Zanini's most important designs for Memphis. This example has a deep green metal flake finish on the fiberglass. In very good condition in the original crate from early production. Marco Zanini was a founding member of Memphis and designed furniture, ceramics, and handblown glass for the 1981-1986 collections. The Roma chairs utilized molded fiberglass a material not typically associated with furniture, and pushed the boundaries of plastic materials for use in the living room. The green metal flake finish is a direct reference to flashy American hot-rod finishes, while the form is certainly a metaphor for the chair's historical relationship to a throne. Long out of production, it is extremely unusual to find these chairs in good condition, especially as many were used outdoors. We are privileged to own two of these very rare, early production examples (priced separately). A coup for any collector!
