Set of Four Klint Red Chairs, Rud Rasmussen, Niger Leather and Mahogany

About the Item

Kaare Klint & Rud Rasmussen Snedkerier - Scandinavian Modern Design. An extraordinary set of four Kaare Klint red chairs, executed by cabinetmaker Rud. Rasmussen, Denmark. Profiled legs of mahogany, seat and back upholstered with Niger leather and fitted with brass nails. 4no chairs in the large sized model. The 'Red Chair' was designed for the Danish Museum of Art and Design’s lecture hall in 1927. Its name derives from the reddish tone of the local earth dyes used by villagers on the Nigerian goatskin upholstery. Nigerian leather is very thick with natural patina, hence extremely durable due to its tight grain, which with time gives the surface a beautiful sheen. A stunning set of chairs in excellent vintage condition.
