An extremely smart, superb quality set of six early Regency period 'Klismos' chairs, attributed to Gillows of Lancaster and London. Seat cushions can be supplied at cost. England, circa 1810. Why we like them This model is one of the best designs inspired by ancient Greek 'Klismos' chairs. Favoured by the nobility and royalty 200+ years ago for its refined, understated elegance, it will be a very chic addition to a modern or classical interior today. Virtually untouched original condition, superb quality, wonderful colour and patination. Attribution This classic Gillow model is named after the Reverend Holland Edwards of Conway, North Wales, who ordered a set of twelve in August 1811. Extraordinary set of six English regency dining chairs crafted from mahogany. The chairs feature a rectangular tablet klismos style back rest conjoined to a generous curved seat. Upholstered with a thick seat having a golden geometric pattern fabric. The seat is supported by elegant turned legs in front and saber legs in back. The mahogany has a rich, dark finish.
