Six by Gastone Rinaldi Leather and Tubular Metal Italian Chairs

About the Item

Six Sabrina chairs in tubular metal and brown leather, icon of the 1970s of this Maestro of the Italian design. Structure in curved metal tube, for these six chairs by Gastone Rinaldi. Seat covered with a fine leather cushion. Comfortable and enveloping seats. Gastone Rinaldi was born in Padua on November 16, 1920. His father, Mario, in 1916 founded the RIMA, small company for the production of metal furniture. Gastone, finished high school, and he enrolled in the Faculty of Business and Economics. His passions, however, are other: the sport (as a player comes to play with the then very strong and Cremona as pilot cars will participate in the legendary Mille Miglia) and design. In 1948, with his brother George, he replaced his father in managing the company. He knows Gio Ponti in 1950 and designs with its consulting chairs (DU10 and DU11) to the Hospital Section of the IX Triennial of Milan. At the Triennale it is also presented the chair with back tilting DU9. In those years Domus regularly publishes his accomplishments. In 1952 participates in the XXX Trade Fair in the "Industrial Art and Aesthetics" edited, among others, by Alberto Rosselli, Ettore Sottsass and Marco Zanuso. Follow, just with Zanuso, the seats for the Piccolo Teatro of Milan. In 1954 the Compasso d 'Oro for the chair DU30. Participates with Bridges, Parisi, De Carli and Gardella, American adventure of Altamira, one of the first overseas companies to call Italian designers. She worked with Carlo Mollino chairs for Molinette Hospital in Turin. In 1957 the chair DU41 won the silver medal at the XI Triennale. Over the years, however, the relationships within the RIMA will make complex and in 1974 Gastone Rinaldi founded Thema. In 1978 he gets a Compasso d'Oro for the armchair Arianna and, in 1981, a 'one for the folding chair Daphne, his latest masterpiece. The Thema will close in 1989. Gastone Rinaldi died in Padua 2 March 2006.
